Wow, i'm left out on this topic. This has to be one of my favourite topics in this forum. Great initiative bro mimin, i've been running out of ppl to practice my english with. I NEVER use my english anymore(written or spoken), mainly because i got noone to practice it with. This topic somehow helps a little to satisfy my passion for english(the language, of couse). For those of you who works with foreigners, especially english speaking foreigners, lucky you! U have a great opportunity n the best way to learn spoken english. Use it well...

i have a rather bad opinion about 'singlish'. That's not english! It's a slaughter of a beautiful n comprehensive language n an excuse for a bad spoken english dialect. Singlish is an excuse for singaporean's lazyness to learn english as a whole. If they're going to adopt english words n mix it with their own language, they should call it another name, like in bahasa indo, we have many english n even dutch words, but noone would call indo language 'indodutch' or indoenglish' or something like that. Man, i hate singlish! Hehhe sorry
I went to s'pore a few times, and disgusted by how they're using english. Sentences like: no, lah! No can do lah! You want? Can do? No like lah!
I mean, what the hell is that?

hmm... Enough rambling, back to work hehehe

Hehehehe... Om Wwndy, I am sometimes using those Singlish words as you mention above, since I spoke to many Singaporean colleagues and that influence my English a little bit bro..

So I think can lah to mix those wording as it will create a whole new experience hehe..

I have the same thought with mi2n. I have no problem at all to have conversation with them. And I see western expatriates also can communicate better with them as english is one of their first language, they are ofcourse rich in vocabularies.
To be honest, I feel more comfortable when hear people talk fluently and continuously talk whenever needed without taking time thinking to match words from their native to english. What comes up in mind, then just talked as it flows.
The only problem they have is only their malay dialect, and it's no big deal in business practice that using english.
Most of local employees, they have a good english pronounciation & dialect but unfortunately they are poor in vocabularies. They sometimes face problem when have to express what they think spontaneously. Sometimes they appear to be tired when they have to talk in hours such as in seminars, presentations etc.

To bro jay n bro mimin: it's good to know that you guys can relate perfectly with singlish. I know i can't or maybe i should say i won't. Unless i really really reeeallyhave to.
It's not that all singaporean's are bad at english. i know some sing ppl with higher education that speak english eloquently.
I'm just being stubborn about my hatred towards singlish, that's all. I spent a lot of time learning english. Trying hard to understand the usage of each word in a sentence in any kind of situation, reading english dictionary when i had nothing else to do, looking up every word i didn't understand in the dictionary. With all those hard work, i'm still not even that good!

Now, to see a language getting slain by a country, makes me quite upset. Hehehe. Well now u know.... I'm a freak!
